Isn't it high time this train bypassed SBC and loco reversal is taken up at SMVB? Would save a huge amount of time and can be speeded up drastically. While slot is an issue in SA CBE section, an earlier arrival at CBE ensures this train's right time departure from CBE.

SWR sure has to do a lot of speeding up for many trains, considering most of the route in this section is FEDL now. Especially this train, as there is no train before or after it. This would be the easiest to do. Udyan is another good example

I was guessing it takes up almost 5 hrs to cover the stretch from GBD to Hosur, the SMVB route would result in atleast cutting the time by 3 hours here.

Might as well do this with 3 hrs TAT at SBC. Would give SBC more quota.

I've seen that the train boards mostly have Mangaluru in the name but the train announcements all throughout kerala refer to it as Mangalapuram. Can it be a local name for the city? It isn't official but many people do refer to it as Mangalapuram. What is the origin of this name?

After this massive terrible train accident of Coromandel Express even with LHB coaches
I hope SCR even now wake up and make Falaknuma LHB ASAP
I didn't understand the fact that it was the first train from SCR proposed to get LHB conversion ; but even Visakha which proposed after Falaknuma got lhbfied

It's

even better if Falaknuma got LHBfied with no RSA

Main villain of this train is 12703 TT arrival at 10:10 and 12704 dep is at 15:55. This is not enough time for maintenance so RSA with a train with late departure from SC is must. RSA with Narayanadri used to work to a little bit but we all know great secondary maintenance of SRC. Back then and even now, this train is known for its worst maintenance. Even when PM was at TPTY it was bad. They somehow convinced SCR to get rid of the RSA and change PM to SC. And now poor Ajanta got entangled with this train. They should be swapping TT of Visakha with Falaknuma i.e around 15:00 departure and Visakha can have RSA with Ajanta. Falaknuma should depart around 08:00 in the night from Secunderabad and arrive at 21:15 - 21:45 at Howrah. Return it can start from 07:25 like before and reach at 09:05....
This will even encourage SCR to give it LHB as soon as possible. Visakha got LHB sooner because it was standalone.

We all can see the beautiful maintenance of SER trains. It's better that Falcon maintenance goes on at SCR.

People have had long discussions on this topic regarding this train because SCR just neglected it in terms of maintenance. It's RSA partner also used to get neglected in the process. Discussions of transferring PM to SRC were also made but some people also did site trains like 18048 which till today have horrible maintenance. The train does travel through Orissa,AP and Karnataka so it does get dirty. I think this is a major issue for trains bound from HWH towards South. Onboard maintenance should be done otherwise people keep assuming that maintenance at origin is not upto mark. Many people in South have that idea of North originating trains like Sanghamitra, Raptisagar, Coro, Dhanbad etc that they are just not well maintained trains. Dhanbad ALLP just becomes horrible by the time it reaches AP. I wish Falcon maintenance was transferred to SER but there is too much skepticism of SER...

with maintenance right now. I don't think SCR will accept as well. Also since it has RSA with a train bound to AP i.e Simhapuri SF, maintenance cannot be compromised. Granted there are shortcomings but folks here won't accept if trains runs ill maintained.

I wonder why there is a lack of pit lines in Kolkata. Probably many trains have huge time dedicated to PM here. They should think about transferring some South bound trains to ER maintenance to ease the load from SER. Amaravati has around 22 hours PM in PDPK or SRC. Same with East Coast, Gitanjali, HWH SMVB SF and a few other trains(huge PM time allotted). While SMVB HWH should be reverted to it's previous TT(2 nights 1 day). They should be managed with RSA to reduce standing time in pit lines. Falcon can depart late night from SC and around 2130 arrival at HWH but SCR won't do it because they might have to manage OT of SC VSKP duronto, SER has to allot time for PURI HWH Vande Bharat OT as well.

Yes that's true. East Coast had RSA with Howrah Hatia, why not resume that as well? HWH PURI can have RSA with Gitanjali. I said ER because we have some good night time trains that can be RSA partners like Padatik etc that can be suitable for RSA with Amaravati etc. When that happens it will become a full fledged ER train, like SDAH PURI Duronto.

While we have complaints about RSA patterns causing impact on other trains , this would do good for SER as they can save rakes. I would be careful regarding trains going via SECR though, even though the delays have gone down now.

Now that is a huge mystery. These trains have more than 20 hrs maintenance at SRC or PDPK. I wonder why someone from SER should answer this.

It would be better to depart Ajanta from MMR at 1600 and arrival at KCG at 0400 or so, it can even be terminated at HYB . Provided it gets LHB, it's better to have RSA with Dakshin SF so that while incoming Dakshin gets PM, Inbound Ajanta can just be cleaned up and SC ADB needs a day time connection rather than night time with Krishna Express. This can also be done by extending RAL SC Express to ADB. Krishna exp can be short terminated at NZB which will reduce the number of rakes used and it can depart at 05:45 or 06:00 to take up Ajanta slot between NZB and SC, would be much better for NZB pax travelling to SC as well. I don't think MMR is in any mood to do PM for this train so why not reduce the TAT at MMR, currently it is 14...

hours or so. Ajanta can serve as a dedicated train between SC and AWB, MMR. Late departure from any HYB terminal would also be useful in this case.

Krishna is the only train between these stations currently. More connections are definitely needed. Some extensions and new trains can definitely help.

I think they should change timings of NSL to NS in this section or even extend it to Mumbai if possible, giving it a late departure at MMR. It can arrive at 9 or 10 at SC and night time at NS. They can then use a HYB terminating train to run as RSA partner with NS LPI Express, possibly Devagiri would be a good partner, ridding Gautami with RSA. This pattern will have daily PM at NS in the day while NS NSL can be done in the night.

Can we talk about Kerala TVC and PGT division and how recklessly they give halts to trains and make them fast passengers? Does every train need to stop every 6-7 KMS between KTYM and KYJ?

Well when there are two trains, namely MAS TVC SF exp and SF Mail, can't they adopt an alternative stoppage? Say one stops in Chengannur the other can skip it and stop in Changanassery. We can save considerable amount of time like this. Does every train need to stop for every 10 kms? There is a high need of an MPS increase in Kerala especially the south. I know the route has a lot of curves and 80 can be the max speed but I do believe significant amount of speedup can be done provided frequent halts are removed. I strongly believe ERN TVC can be done with 3.5 hours if this frequent halts are removed and a little MPS upgrades are done.

Then they should leave the frequent halting patterns to MEMU trains and let Express trains run like Express trains. While long distance trains can have this pattern, it doesn't make sense to have both trains running in the same route end to end have similar halts. MAS TVC SF already has more halts in TN so a decrease in halts for that or TVC Mail should be implemented in my opinion.
