My trip report continued... Train arrived at the right time at Sarai Rohilla. My home is just 5 MINUTES from Sarai Rohilla station (10 minute WALKING distance thru Vivekanandpuri without luggage). But the facilities are SO HORRIBLE at Sarai Rohilla, that I had to spend almost Rs. 500 to get home which is almost next door.
1. Exit from Sarai Rohilla is through a tortuous route towards Liberty Cinema. Very difficult to haul luggage to the entrance. Porter is a must.
2. There are merely about 4-5 porters in Sarai Rohilla. They work...
more... together. One porter came by in a wheeled cart, and said "200 rupaye gaadi mein saamaan dalne ke liye. Agar nahin karna hai tho abhi thodi der mein hum baki log bhi chale jayenge aur phir sab khali ho jayega"
3. No choice but to pay Rs. 200. All my co-passengers also readily complied since they knew that there was no choice.
4. Outside the station, an assortment of the worst-maintained ancient taxis. No choice but to pay whatever they ask.
Totally, paid Rs. 500 to get home next door.
Final summary is that, even though Sarai Rohilla is much closer to my home, New Delhi station is much, much more convenient.
Sarai Rohilla is a very badly maintained station. It needs a LOT of maintenance work and improvement. test.
