few yrs back i hd heard of DETONATORS...mild explosives...stuck on tracks that would burst when loco wheels moved over it...a temporary soln to fog...what happedned to detonators? any other mechanism to combat fog? like giant wheels near tracks at regular intervals, etc? ir loses crores of rupees due to fog every winter. add to it the inconvenience caused. is the issue only in india? how do other countries handle fog ?

but there should be a solution right? countries in northern hemisphere which lie further north might be facing even more issues. this hs bn plaguing us since decades and still no solution. 24 hrs late running may totally change your plans and beat the purpose of the journey in totality

Boss, the whole world suffers because of natural calamities and we are no immune to it. Its just we feel the pinch more, because ours is over populated country, and IR is lifeline and most desired mode of transportation here. Many airports in USA and Russia and many other countries are closed for months, because of heavy snow falls intermittently

Fog doesn't run all day and in all parts. They needs loco upto few hundreds in 1 direction and come back with another train.
Just the way, bankers work for 1 trains and brakers for another train.

Whenever there is a heavy snow storm/Blizzard, other natural phenomena during winters, trains mostly slow down or else are cancelled for a while. some of the locos have snow blowers attached, which often clear the snow but an lp can't help if there is a heavy snow storm. visibility will b cut off & hence the train has either to stop or else slow down until reaches the station. even the GPS system sometimes don't work at such phenomena.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
