Khandala tunnel and all six lanes are being dedicated to Pune-bound traffic for short periods. Heavy vehicles travelling towards Mumbai are also being stopped at the Lonavala exit. The congestion is attributed to a surge in the number of vehicles travelling to tourist destinations like Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Lonavala, Kolhapur, and Nashik, as well as to the Konkan coast via Karad and Kolhapur.

jam ko clear karne ke liye Mumbai jaane waale vehicles ko Khandala tunnel ke paas rok rahe hain aur saare 6 lanes ko Pune jaane waali traffic ke liye kuchh der ke liye block karke khula rakha ja raha hai. Mumbai jaane waale heavy vehicles ko Lonavala exit pe rok diya gaya hai. Traffic jam ka reason Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Lonavala, Kolhapur, Nashik jaise tourist places jaane waale vehicles ki badhti number hai. Iske saath hi Konkan coast pe jaane waale log bhi Karad aur Kolhapur se ja rahe hain.
