This discount was not reinstated when train services resumed in June 2022, leading to various platforms, including both Houses of Parliament, raising the issue. Vaishnav, in response to questions during a press conference, asserted that a 100-rupee ticket is effectively sold for 45 rupees, highlighting the existing discount. Earlier, an RTI response from Indian Railways revealed that they collected approximately 2,242 crore rupees from about 15 crore senior citizens in the fiscal year 2022-23.
