First, the source and destination needs to be connected with the train(s) in the shortest available route. Then, we can think about alternate routes.

there is no need that a train should always run via shortest route. In this case it can run via POY though.

We can connect the source and destinations in 'n' number of routes. But, the shortest route should be the first priority which will benefit the passengers more with less fare and less travel time. Then, other routes can be tried out. This is my humble opinion.

so basically youa re talking about the welfare of source and destination passengers. what about the intermediate ones? Well in this train i can change the route via POY but in general a train should also look out to help the people who have less connectivity even if that means a longer route. It is just my personal opinion :)
