Alight here for Dhamma Giri
A few hundred yards from the sleepy railway station, a small group of seven men, all Vipassana meditators, slowly made their way up a deserted hill. One of them had his foot in plaster. He hobbled along painfully with a crutch. The others addressed him as ‘Guruji’. S.N. Goenka and the group reached the top of the hill, a desolate land with ancient ruins and a few scattered trees. Nearby, the group could see bodies burning in a cemetery. “Guruji, this place could hardly be ideal for...
more... a meditation centre”, one amongst the group said nervously. Goenkaji smiled. “On the contrary, this is the ideal place. You can see the ultimate fate of this physical body for which we have so much attachment”. The Dhamma teacher experienced the vibrations on the lonely hill. “We were not looking for this place”, he said quietly. “This place was looking for us”. After millennia, the priceless jewel of Dhamma had found a casket--Dhamma Giri.

Neend ki raatstation se kuch sau yard door ek chhote-se group mein se saat aadmi, sab Vipassana meditators, dheere-dheere akeli pahadi ke upar ja rahe the. Unme se ek ke paer menphit tha. Woh langda chapraasi ke saath dukh se ja rahe they. Dusre logon ne use 'Guruji' kaha. S.N. Goenka aur group ne pahadi ke upar, purani khandaar aur kuch phaile hue pedon wali ek sunsaan zameen tak pahunch li. Nazdeek mein, group ne kabristaan mein jale hue sharir dekhe. "Guruji, ek meditation centre ke liye yeh jagah bilkul bharosemand nahi ho sakti", group ke ek vyakti ne dar se kaha. Goenkaji muskuraye. "Bilkul vipreet, yeh bharosemand jagah hai. Tum is sharir ki antim kismet ko dekh sakte ho, jiske liye humein itni mohabbat hai". Dhamma ke shikshak ne akeli pahadi par vibrations ka anubhav kiya. "Hum is jagah ko nahi dhoondh rahe they", woh dheere se bola. "Yeh jagah humein dhoondh rahi thi". Hazaron saalon ke baad, Dhamma ke anmol ratn ne ek sandook -- Dhamma Giri -- dhoondh hi liya.
