The line will pass through 14 villages in Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, and 11 villages in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, requiring the acquisition of 86.26 hectares and 51 hectares of land, respectively. The new line will reduce the distance between Delhi and Roorkee by 33 kilometers, as it will bypass Tapri, offering a direct route from Deoband to Roorkee. This will also ease congestion on the main rail route. Currently, trains from Delhi to Haridwar travel through Muzaffarnagar, Tapri, or Saharanpur, with the existing route being longer and winding, leading to slower travel times. The direct line will shorten the journey by 27.45 kilometers and allow trains to run at higher speeds, resulting in a one-hour reduction in travel time between Delhi and Haridwar, as well as between Delhi and Dehradun.
