The police, however, reported the incident as happening early in the morning, contradicting the boy's family's claim of the fight taking place the night before. The deceased's father filed a complaint with the Superintendent of Police, accusing the girl's family of abduction and murder. The police reached the scene and assured the family of action, sending the body back to the village. The deceased's family claimed that the fight happened due to the love affair the night before and that the police had arrested two of the boy's brothers. The body was discovered on the railway tracks under a flyover by the railway authorities who reported the incident to the Government Railway Police (GRP) who conducted a panchnama and handed over the body to the family after the postmortem.
