The Kanpur Police are investigating the matter and have detained over two dozen individuals with criminal backgrounds. They are also collecting evidence from the scene, which includes a petrol bottle and matchboxes. The investigation is being conducted by a joint team comprising the NIA, IB, RPF, GRP, state intelligence, and Kanpur police. They have collected some evidence and are continuing the investigation. Police are also verifying the identities of 250 LPG customers who recently refilled their cylinders from a local agency. On Sunday night, the Kalindi Express was en route from Kanpur to Bhiwani when someone placed an LPG cylinder on the track near Barrajpur station. The loco pilot stopped the train when it hit the cylinder. Besides the cylinder, a bottle of flammable material and a bag were also found. The bag contained a sweet box which is said to be from a shop in Chibramau, Kannauj. In this connection, the investigating STF reached Chibramau on Monday and searched the shops of three brothers belonging to the same family. One shop is located on Bishungarh Road, another at Bishungarh Chowk, and the third at Peepal Chowk. The team gathered information from the shops. With the help of the police, the STF examined the CCTV footage of the sweet shop and the surrounding area. The police also took some DVRs. Kannauj SP Amit Kumar Anand stated that the Kanpur police and other agencies are investigating the train derailment plot and that Kannauj police are assisting them.
