The Southern Railway is working on installing an Elephant Intrusion Detection System (EIDS) along both sides of the track between Madukkarai and Kottekkad stations at a cost of ₹15.42 crores. This system will use optical fiber cables to detect elephant movement and generate alerts. The Forest Department also provided training for Railway officials and loco pilots on the use of an AI-based early warning system that detects elephant movement near tracks and sends alerts to station masters' mobile phones.
