Following protests from several
quarters, the Railways has decided to
revoke orders to cancel the temporary
halts of three trains at Edappally and
Kalamassery stations.
The...
more... decision comes in the wake of concerns that the move would violate
the Election Commission’s code of
conduct. “The move can be
misinterpreted as a decision favouring
or opposing a political leader or party.
This is why the Railways has decided to revoke its plans to cancel the stops.
However, these stops will definitely be
cancelled after the elections,” sources
said.
The Railways on Thursday issued a press
release stating that the temporary halt which was provided for train
No.16525/16526, Kanyakumari-
Bangalore Central-Kanyakumari Express
and Train No. 16649/16650, Nagercoil
Junction - Mangalore Central-Nagercoil
Junction Parasuram Express at Tripunithura station and temporary
stoppage at Kalamasseri and Edappally
stations for Punalur-Guruvayur fast
passenger would be withdrawn from
Saturday.
These stops had been provided on a trial basis. Since the patronage was less,
the Railways decided to cancel the
stops.
